Commencement

Commencement is one of our most cherished traditions, one that marks a major milestone for you, your family and the faculty and staff who have supported your journey at Charlotte. The ceremonies will take place in the Dale F. Halton Arena located in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

Summer Ceremony
The University has added a ceremony for our summer graduates which will take place on Saturday, August 9, 2025. Summer graduates will receive ceremony details in late May.

Name Announcement/Name Display

  • You will use the website “Tassel” to record your name to be announced as well as displayed on the scoreboard when you cross the stage.
  • You will receive an email from Tassel on Wednesday, April 2, with instructions on how to record your name. It is not mandatory to record your name but your recording will assist with the pronunciation.
  • The diploma name you provided on your graduation application will be announced unless you modify your name in Tassel.
  • On the day of the ceremony, each student will receive a name card with a unique QR code. The QR code will be scanned as you walk across the stage. Your name will be displayed on the scoreboard and announced.
  • If you need ADA accommodations, please make your request through Tassel. If you have any questions on ADA accommodations, please contact the Office of Disability Services.

Additional Information
Guests for the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony on Thursday, May 8, will not need tickets.
Ticket information will be available to graduating students the first week of April.

Please be advised that only graduating students and commencement personnel are permitted in the commencement assembly and seating areas and may participate in the commencement procession and ceremony. If a personal assistant is required as a disability accommodation, please contact the Office of Disability Services.

Please review the clear bag policy. Backpacks, umbrellas and balloons are not permitted.

Graduating students are required to have a UNC Charlotte student ID card or mobile ID in order to enter the graduate area. If you do not have a valid UNC Charlotte ID card, please follow the instructions on how to download a mobile ID.
