Graduate Ceremony Information
Congratulations on your incredible achievements! We’re excited to celebrate this milestone with you and your guests at the upcoming commencement ceremony. Below are some important details to help you prepare your commencement ceremony.
Arrival & Check-In
- Check-In Location: Please pick up your name card at the Northeast entrance of the Barnhardt Student Activity Center. Signs will be posted for easy navigation.
- If the last name which you selected to print on your diploma is different from what is listed in Banner, your name card will be distributed according to your diploma name.
- Arrival Time: Arrive 90 minutes before your ceremony begins. This allows time for check-in, security, and getting settled. Once the ceremony begins, you will not be permitted entry.
- Parking: Park in the Union Deck. Parking is free for both graduates and guests. Expect heavier traffic on campus, so plan accordingly.
- ADA Accommodations: If you require accommodations, please contact the Office of Disability Services ahead of time.
Safety & Security Measures
Your safety and enjoyment are our top priorities. Please review and comply with the following security guidelines:
- ID Card Required: You’ll need a valid UNC Charlotte student ID or mobile ID to enter the graduate area. Please have your ID ready to help us maintain efficient check-in.
- Prohibited Items:
- No banners, flags, signs, or noisemakers inside Halton Arena.
- Umbrellas and balloons are also not allowed in the arena for ceremonies.
- Additional Info: Metal detectors will be at all entry points, and a clear bag policy will be in effect. Please plan extra time for bag checks.
Important Ceremony Information
- Regalia & Belongings:
- Sashes/stoles may not exceed 6 inches in width
- Please review the full regalia policy (cap, stole, etc.) to ensure compliance.
- Please arrive in your cap and gown. Leave personal items in your car or with guests, as there will be no storage available.
- To avoid injury, please refrain from wearing high heels during the ceremony.
- Ceremony Etiquette: Please remain seated throughout the ceremony, even after crossing the stage, out of respect for your fellow graduates.
- Photographs: Professional photos will be taken as you cross the stage. Personal photos may be taken afterward. We ask that you help keep the campus clean by disposing of any trash near photo locations.
- Guest Meet-Up: Prior to the ceremony, coordinate with your guests on a meeting location. Designated areas for post-ceremony meet-ups will be available around the Barnhardt Student Activity Center.

- Email Updates: Make sure your personal email address is updated in Banner for important event communications.
